The Student Buddy Solar Light sees teams of 2-3 assemble a solar light and panel that will be given to a girl between the ages of 13 and 15-years old.
This Solar Light can illuminate a small room, charge two devices at once, and is a torch enabling girls to safely travel at night. The use of the Solar Light means that devices can be charged at home and girls can stay in school longer, families save the cost of charging devices, and are less reliant on fossil fuels in the home, reducing the health impact of breathing in fumes.
The activity starts with learning about energy poverty before each team is given the Kit to assemble. Once the Kit is assembled and repackaged, they are tasked with writing a letter of encouragement to the recipient of the light.
